After Team Rocket fails in their latest attempt to steal Ash's Pikachu, the boat breaks down. Floating, they notice a large abandoned ship and decide to board after seeing a smaller boat on the side. Inside, they meet Tommy, a trainer who lost his Marshtomp on that ship a long time ago. He promises to give Ash and the gang a ride after he finishes searching. Several Pokémon begin to disappear, and soon May, Max, and Team Rocket are captured as well. A Swampert and a Spinarak reveal themselves as the culprits. Ash, Brock, Pikachu, and Tommy soon encounter the Swampert, and Tommy recognizes it as his Marshtomp, but it retreats deeper into the ship. After rescuing the others, Tommy reunites with his lost friend and apologizes for leaving him behind. After foiling another of Team Rocket's plans, Ash and the gang leave with Tommy's boat towards Slateport.
